The Bike

The Bike

The bike that I’m using for this adventure is a Dawes Super Galaxy and probably about 10 years old from new.   I had a Dawes road bike 40 years ago, and it was excellent, but it was knicked when I was at Salford University.  I never did get around to replacing it, until now, with this Super Galaxy bought off ebay.

The seat

The most important part of any bike! The best seat I've ever had - for more information see text below.

A comfortable saddle is really important especially for me as I don’t wear any padded cycle shorts – I’ve got to look my best at all times of course!  This saddle is so comfortable that I’ve actually bought three now, for three separate bikes I should add.  I got them from Cassie’s cycle shop, in Burgh le Marsh.  After 2000km, the one that I fitted for this tour still looks like new.

Panniers

Ortlieb panniers - not low cost, even second hand from ebay, but 100% per cent waterproof.

Rear and front folk panniers provided ample space.  I’ve towed a single wheel trailer in the past and, never again as simply not necessary.
